There is no shortage of photographers in this area, but there are few professionals, collaborators, and creatives like Sara Kalish. In fact, Sara is such a rare gem that it feels selfish to keep her all to myself. So fine, I'll share her.
Sara Kalish is a mother, wife, and an incredible newborn and family photographer. Like many of us photographers, she initially got into photography as a hobby. Realizing her passion for it she launched Sara Kalish Photography and began focusing on newborn photography. Over the last several years, Sara has expanded her portfolio to include several well-known influencers and celebrities, but more importantly, has gained quite the local NJ/NYC following.
I first met Sara when she did my newborn photoshoot with my second child, Leo. She walked into my home with all her props and gear and within minutes I felt like we had been friends forever. She was great with daughter and also the baby, and was even better with me. I had postpartum anxiety, and even though she didn't know it at the time (neither did we, to be honest), she was reassuring and confident and made me feel comfortable with her. I actually think we met for coffee just a week or two later, because we had really hit it off.
Meeting a new friend is always fun, but who Sara became to me next really shows what kind of person she is. When we met, I was just starting out on my own photography journey and Sara has become one of my biggest cheerleaders. Even as I entered the newborn photography specialty, Sara has continued to be a supportive colleague and friend.
As a photographer, Sara has a unique style in bringing the experience into a client's home. She does not use large props and uses all natural light. She is known for using your couch or bed to create the setup, so her only requirement is that you have one of these things and amazing light in your home.
Over the past year, Sara has met the challenge of the pandemic, transforming her business to offer virtual newborn sessions. Yup, she's been doing the session via FaceTime and directing the parents in how to pose and shoot. She has since completed over 100 virtual sessions, including one for Zoe Runerman, editor of People, who then featured this novel idea on People.com!
Recently winning two spots in the Little Hoboken Awards of 2020, Sara Kalish Photography is a local favorite for maternity, newborn, and family photography.
