As a lover of all things makeup and beauty, my makeup and beauty collection was out of control for the longest time. The amount of money I wasted on products that I never used, makes my head want to spin! And in all honesty, I probably still own at least 20 eyeshadows in all the same bronzy-brown shade from every makeup brand on the market – all of which I never wear.
Anyone else guilty of this?
Over the years, I’ve gotten a grip on my makeup hoarding and now I have a capsule makeup collection that I’m proud of with products that I use on a regular basis. And what I’ve really discovered as the key to a minimal makeup collection, is finding products that have dual use. Not only does this create order in your makeup collection, but it also saves a ton of money.
So, if you’re looking to clean out that makeup drawer and create a capsule makeup collection, I’ve got your back. Here’s how I went from hoarding makeup products and tools to these 13 essentials for everyday makeup application.
one – Clarins Beauty Flash Balm – I love this primer and have been using it for years. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup application. And a little goes a long way! A tube will last me nearly 6 months.
CC+ Cream, Concealer + Beauty Blender
two – IT COSMETICS Your Skin but Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. My all-time favorite CC cream. I use it year round but especially love it come Spring & Summer because it has SPF 50. It’s buildable, so it provides the perfect coverage without being too heavy.
three – NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Great coverage with a creamy texture.
four – The Beauty Blender. For blending CC Cream, foundations + concealers.
Bronzer, Highlighter, Blush, Lips + Color Correcting
Matte side – Use the bronzer for warming up the face by applying it to your cheekbones, hairline and jawline. It can also be used as a warm blush. And my secret trick with bronzer is to use it on my eyes as a shadow by applying it to my crease (using the blending blush listed below).
Highlight side– perfect for highlighting the upper cheek bones + brightening the inner corners of the eye.
six – The Huestick - the matte formula is perfect for creating a monochromatic, classic look by applying it on the lips, on the lids of your eyes as a shadow, on the cheeks as blush + you can use it as a color corrector as well. 4 products in one!
Eyebrow Pomade and Spoolie Brush
seven – Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade – my current favorite product for filling in my eyebrows.
nine – MAC Cosmetics 286S Synthetic Duo Fibre Tapered Brush – the perfect brush for blending your eyeshadow. This is one brush I’ll never live without.
ten – SIGMA Beauty F30 Large Powder Brush – perfect for bronzing, applying blush and highlighter.
Eyeliner and Mascara
eleven – MAC Cosmetics Eye Kohl – I’ve been using this eyeliner for years. It’s long lasting and creamy which makes it easy to blend.
twelve – NARS Climax Mascara – I tend to switch up my mascaras but this one is in my current rotation and I really like it! It creates lots of volume and length.
thirteen - MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Fix+ Scented Mist – the one product in my makeup kit that I’ll never give up. After you apply your makeup, spritz this on your face and blend in with your beauty blender. It will set your makeup and will make it last all day or night.
