Holistic Mom: Healthy "Detox"

Detox is such a controversial word and to be honest, it’s not something I believe in. Your body has a natural detoxification system - it’s called your liver! I’m not a juice cleanse or a water fast kind of gal. I just love to eat too much.

That being said I, like everyone, have a tendency to overload my system with stuff that makes me feel not so great. With Halloween around the corner for many of us that can mean too much sugar.

I don’t think we’re doing our body any favors by skipping meals or drinking only water the day after a sugar OD. Instead, here are some gentle ways to restore balance in your body:

  1. Lemon water! Super easy and delicious, lemon helps cleanse and drinking as much water as possible helps us flush out our system.

  2. Water based foods. Watermelon, celery, and cucumber all have high water content, so snacking on them can help you rehydrate.

  3. Peppermint or ginger tea helps to aid your digestive system along which may be sluggish after overeating.

  4. Cilantro and parsley are herbs known for their detoxification powers and can easily be added to salads or most meals.

The most important is to be gentle with yourself, tune in and listen to your body, and to eat your meals mindfully!
