Hoboken's charm is made up of many different things: the cobblestone side streets, the brownstones and row homes, the crooked sidewalks and old trees, and then, of course, there is the corner bookstore. Little City Books opened in May 2015, but a walk down First Street makes you feel like it's been there for many years. It fits perfectly into the charm of downtown with large windows and walls lined with books. It simply begs you to come in and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life.
Little City Books is owned by Donna and Kate, two Hoboken moms who met while their kids were playing in the park after school. They set out to open LCB together, and in just over one year, they found themselves expanding to include the Little City Children's Book Annex.
The children's annex is one of our favorite places in town and, of course, one of those places we don't mind telling our kids, "Sure, you can have that!" Donna and Kate have a carefully curated collection of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, games, academic workbooks, activity books, toys, and puzzles for all ages starting at newborn and going through the teen years. They have put a lot of thought into their space, including an entire room devoted to babies with board books, parenting books, baby classics and infant toys, and a reading nook for small children and their caregivers. With onesies, specialized gift boxes, and books for just about any phase of life, there is something for everyone at LCB.
Little City Children's Book Annex is also home to several children's events. Frequent author readings and book signings are held in the space, as well as regularly scheduled storytime on Friday and Sunday mornings (see below for more details!)
