Right now, I’m in a busy season of my life. There is a lot going on. Some days I feel like I can’t catch up or catch my breath. I feel like the days get away from me, and I’m not finding a moment in the day to breathe.
This has happened to me before. It happens to all of us! Sometimes, life throws a lot at us at once and our job is just to stay afloat. During these periods, the practices that keep me grounded are pushed aside - yoga, meditation, movement, reading, journaling. Sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day.
When faced with overwhelm, I return to one simple ritual. When I wake up in the morning, the first moments are just for me. This is an extremely short practice - one to five minutes. I close my eyes and do whatever feels natural, what comes up. Sometimes it’s a little bit of movement, sometimes something needs to be put on paper, other times I just need to focus on my breath. It sounds extremely simple, maybe even silly, but it helps shift my mindset. By tuning in first thing in the morning, it is easier to listen to my inner voice throughout the day.
All it takes is a minute - and some days that’s all we have!
