It may be calling for snow, but summer camp registration has already started for the little ones. There are so many options and they can get very expensive. When my oldest, Dominic, was 4 and I was looking at camps I was in shock by the cost. I grew up in Northern Virginia where summer camp entailed going to the local recreational center. The camps outside of Hoboken look like amazing retreats. Can I sign up and go? Cost is an issue or that long bus ride for many families.
I started to look at local camps in town. Four years ago, I had no idea where to look. I felt very alone in that search. All of my son's friends went to camps like Deerkill and Riverbend. Was I doing the right thing not sending him on a bus like everyone else? My mom guilt came in strong. Well I took a leap of faith and in the end it worked out great. My son never mentioned why he didn’t go to those other camps. Even if he did I was thinking it could be a learning lesson for him (and me).
Whatever the case may be you are looking for some local camps there are many amazing local options to choose from. Daycares, sports, specialized programs, town events, and much more.
Summer planning can be stressful but keep in mind that that the memories is what you are planning for. They don’t have to be the most extravagant. Kids can have fun in most any situation. Check the camps out and see which one you feel comfortable as a parent and which camp your child would enjoy. Oh dreaming of warmer days 😉...
