If you follow me on IG stories, you may have seen me showing off these rad orange glasses recently. Yes, I rock these to bed most nights – and my sleep is way better because of it!
I had been going through a bout of insomnia, so I went into my Holistic Mama toolbox and got these guys out. I had become far too reliant on screens to help me fall asleep (anyone else?). Whether it was mindless scrolling on my phone, or watching a rerun of a show I’ve seen 100x on my iPad, I could no longer deny that my screen habit was out of control and my sleep was suffering.
Why are these orange glasses so helpful? They block out the blue light emitting from screens like our phones and tablets. In the “real world”, we are only exposed to this kind of light during the brightest parts of the day – signaling our body that it is time to wake up. Having exposure to this part of the light spectrum at all hours confuses the heck out of our bodies and throws off our circadian rhythm. Remember when we were teaching our newborn babes about their circadian rhythms? Now, we need to practice what we preach!
In an ideal world, I would wear these glasses for an hour or two before bedtime, to really help increase my body’s natural melatonin. In reality, I put them on when I get into bed and do some last minute (hour) emailing, phone scrolling, and iPad watching. I have absolutely noticed a difference from adding these glasses, and limiting screen time before bed. My very wise husband has not weighed in on the look.
