I have had a consistent yoga practice for years, mostly in local studios, and then more recently at home. After having my daughter, it became harder to carve out the time to get to a studio on a regular basis. However, my solo practice at home never felt as nourishing as a studio class – yes, the movement was there, but I missed the collective energy of a group flow, and of course I missed having a professional teacher. Enter Jeannine!
Jeannine Morris is a journalist, beauty and wellness expert, holistic health coach, and yoga teacher. She offers group and private yoga right in your home. She also offers a 4 week beginner series for those new to the practice. Of course, she is also a Little Hoboken Hook-Up vendor!
Confession: I have followed Jeannine’s blog and Instagram for awhile, so I was psyched to work with her. I will also admit I was quite nervous – I thought private yoga sessions were for super advanced yogis looking to improve their one armed handstands. When I told Jeannine I wanted to work on real basics – downward facing dog and chaturanga dandasana (for non-yogis: essentially a low plank with elbows at a right angle), she was thrilled! Jeannine told me that she is passionate about proper alignment, and that many experienced yogis have no idea they are doing some of their favorite poses incorrectly, which could lead to injury.
Jeannine has a calm energy that puts you instantly at ease. She was able to make me feel zen and focused in my little living room - with a toddler running around no less! We talked about my yoga goals, and then got to work. I learned so much about yoga in our one session, things no one has taught me in a group class in my years of practice. Most notably, she was able to completely transform my downward facing dog pose – something I have been doing daily for years. Though it may not look like it, the correct version of the pose is a LOT of work. Between that and our chaturanga dandasana work, my arms were super sore the next day! (Not to worry – Jeannine had a remedy for that!)
I loved working with Jeannine, and plan to continue sessions with her. I am so happy to have found a way to have my “me time” and a workout without leaving my home (or hiring a babysitter!). I highly recommend checking out Jeannine’s website to learn more.
