Makeup Junkie Mama: Pregnancy Safe Products

As a makeup artist I recently became very passionate about safe cosmetics. Since the FDA’s regulations on cosmetics haven't been updated since 1938, it's hard to know what products are really safe, especially because companies can use the words “natural” and “organic” and it doesn’t mean very much. When I became pregnant with my second, I knew I was going to have to do some serious label reading and testing. Of course we want to use products that are safe while pregnant, but we want the same quality products with great performance. So, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite safe beauty products for all of you mamas and soon-to-be mamas out there!

Skin Prep Products

My skin can be dry some days and oily on others. These pregnancy hormones can really do weird things to my skin.

I absolutely cannot live without Beautycounter’s Countermatch Lotion. It adapts to your skins needs so it keeps my skin hydrated without getting oily and I only need one pump to get the job done.

I follow this up with Beautycounter’s #2 Brightening Oil.

I add a couple of drops to my fingertips and tap on my face for the perfect glow.

Makeup Products

As a working mom of a toddler, I love makeup products that do it all.

I have been really obsessed with IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream.

It's basically like a tinted moisturizer on steroids. It covers so well while being hydrating and has SPF 50+. I apply it with a brush but you can apply with your fingers as well.

I also absolutely love IT Cosmetics Illuminating Concealer.

I work long hours and am always up early. It also doesn’t help that I'm up at least once a night using the bathroom. This stuff covers my dark circles like no other concealer I have tried. I use my finger to pat it under the eye area.

Another multi tasking product I love is Olio E Osso’s Lip and Cheek Tint. This gel stick gives the perfect flushed glow. It's nice on the lips too, especially as a base under my favorite lipgloss.

For fall, I love a bold lip and it' the perfect way to dress up your look for a quick night out. Beautycounter's Lip Sheer in Currant

& Burt's Bees are my favorite for this. They have everything from tinted lip balm to full coverage lipsticks.

Last, but not least is mascara. I’ve tried them all and most safe mascaras don’t do much. My two faves are IT Cosmetics Superhero Lash and Beautycounter's New Volumizing Mascara.

Both give you bold lashes all day without flaking or irritating.

It's so exciting that safer makeup and skincare has come so far in the last few years! If you know a great and safe product I missed, email us at hello@littlehobokenblog.com.
