What To Do With All Those Apples!

Slow Cooker Apple Sauce

If you’re an overly-ambitious apple picker (what do you do with 37 apples?), this recipe is for you.

It’s also the perfect recipe for moms who spent the morning on the farm juggling multiple children, a 10-pound bag of apples, and an oversized pumpkin and don’t want to spend three more hours cooking an apple pie only for your kids to ask for ice cream instead. So YOU end up taking a fork to the rejected pie and eating the whole darn thing! Basically, this recipe is for all of us.

Instead, just throw everything into a slow cooker, set it on high for four hours, and let the apples break down and fill your house with cinnamon-sweet smells.

Slow Cooker Apple Sauce

(makes 4 cups)

3 pounds apples, peeled cored, and chopped into 1-inch pieces

2 cinnamon sticks

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

Place all ingredients in slow cooker and stir. Cover, then cook on high for 4 hours. Remove the cinnamon sticks, then use an immersion blender or potato masher to puree the applesauce. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
