National Breastfeeding Month: An Intro To Milksource

Our bodies and our babies are hardwired to breastfeed, but that doesn’t mean that we know how to breastfeed, that it isn’t difficult, and that we don’t need some help. In fact, according to the latest stats by the CDC, less than 25% of women are exclusively breastfeeding by six months and, here is the kicker - the major cause of this is a lack of support and education. That’s where we come in.

After months of baby prep, reading through the breastfeeding books and blogs, buying supplies, and checking boxes off to-do lists, we were surprised and overwhelmed by how challenging those first few weeks were and how little support we received while we tried to navigate through the breastfeeding challenges that seemed to endlessly come our way.

Now we’re breastfeeding toddlers; we made it through some of the most difficult moments of our motherhood journeys thus far, and we decided it was time to change the system. Breastfeeding is a joint effort that combines the commitment you’ve made, the education you obtain AND the support from those around you that impact your ability to reach your breastfeeding goals.

This past year we began to discuss what we could do to improve the experiences of breastfeeding moms. How could we educate, empower and support moms who want to breastfeed? How could we be the resources we so desperately wanted and needed while we were figuring out this whole breastfeeding thing? So we developed milksource, a modern approach to breastfeeding education and support and we are extremely excited to launch it on August 31st.

Milksource is an online-based platform developed by two Certificated Lactation Educator Counselors (CLECs) with backgrounds in women’s health and child development. We’re bringing you everything from classes on breastfeeding basics, balancing motherhood as working moms, gaining the support you need from those around you, a blog full of research and breastfeeding information, e-consultations to navigate your plan of returning back to work, nursing through pregnancy, overcoming challenges, and more. Simply put: we’re here to help you get the most out of your breastfeeding journey. We are educators, researchers and, most importantly, breastfeeding moms, and we aim to clear up all the clutter of misinformation surrounding breastfeeding and deliver the real deal backed by peer-reviewed research. And, all of this in the convenience of your home - which means pajamas are absolutely acceptable to wear to class!

Be sure to follow milksource on Instagram too!
