National Sushi Day

Kon'nichiwa, National Sushi Day!

Probably the biggest thing I missed when I was pregnant (wine doesn't count, that's just a given...) was sushi. I dreamt of it. I told my husband I wanted it brought to me the second the baby came out. I found a vegan sushi place by my office that was good, but just not the same!

So now, where to get yours in honor of this glorious day!

Okinawa is probably the newest place on this list and aside from their fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi, they have fantastic gyoza and shumai. Their most popular rolls aside from the standard spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, salmon avocado, and california, are their Hoboken Roll (shrimp, crabmeat, caviar, crunch and spicy mayo) and (one of my favorites!) their Crunch Yellow Dragon Roll (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado, tempura flakes, soy paper, spicy mayo, and eel sauce).

Robongi (a staple and favorite of our followers in the 2016 LH Awards) has delicious Japanese food like teriyakis, beef negimaki, and don't even get me started on the filet mignon with wasabi garlic sauce, but their most popular sushi rolls (aside from the classics, of course) are the Sakura Roll (shrimp tempura and cucumber with spicy tuna and tempura flakes) and the American Dream Roll (salmon, avocado, and cucumber inside with spicy king crab, snow crab, and mixed red tobiko on top)

Oh, Illuzion, how I love your rock shrimp and spicy plum sauce! And the lobster and asparagus in the lemony, buttery garlic sauce.....yummmmmmm! But, I's Sushi Day! Must tries here are definitely the Fallen Angel (spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail inside topped with yellowtail, salmon, tuna, white tuna, and avocado) and for something crazy good, try the Forever El Bulli Roll (spicy yellowtail, grilled salmon and jalapeño roll, topped with slices of Angus filet mignon and scallions).

Exploring Jersey City's options for sushi....hands down, you must visit, Honshu! Located in Jersey City's Financial District, Honshu was not only voted best sushi in Jersey City, but has been voted in the top 50 sushi locations in America! Try a Forbidden Roll (spicy scallop, mango, lobster salad, soybean, & black rice) or a Honshu Roll (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, tobiko, crunch, & marbled seaweed) and be sure to wash it down with something from their impressive sake collection!
