Gift Like a Mother

2017 {Local} Mother's Day Gift Guide

This year, Little Hoboken is bringing you a shiny new gift guide for Mother’s Day – that holiday you didn’t fully appreciate (or understand) growing up. I know many of you moms out there desperately want a full nights’ rest, a relaxing vacation on the Amalfi coast, clean hair, and a clone and/or personal assistant this Mother’s Day. Me too, *wiping tears* me too. While we can’t provide you with that well-deserved nap this year, we are delivering some great {local} finds to give to the special mother(s) in your life.

Happy Shopping!

This post is sponsored by each of the businesses listed below.

All opinions are our own.

Battaglia's Home

For one-stop shopping, I highly recommend making the trip up to BATTAGLIA’S HOME. This place is a mecca for home décor and gift items and has a parking lot – a free parking lot people! Every time I go in, I end up buying a kitchen tool I didn’t know I needed and then sit downstairs on a gorgeous L-shaped sofa not covered in milk and crushed pretzels. A girl can dream. I love these handmade pillows as a gift for a local mom. Who doesn’t need another cute throw pillow? Granted my husband would say “Us!” but I love them anyway. I also came across these adorable activity books for Mom or Grandma. In addition to being a thoughtful and heartwarming gift, it’s something fun to do with your child (and keep them busy while you continue to shop for Mother’s Day)

BONUS: If you shop at Battaglia’s with your LH HookUp card, you save 15% off your purchase of items $50 or less

Alba Boutique

Need a gift for a mommy friend, or a new ‘mama’ in your life? I l-o-v-e this cute little necklace from ALBA BOUTIQUE in midtown Hoboken. It’s simple, stylish, and such an easy gift to give! I love that the chain is gold filled (tarnish free) and the charms are gold plated as well. Another amazing gift worth mentioning is their collection of totes and clutches with built-in phone chargers. Seriously, who doesn’t need one of these? Between switching back and forth from diaper bag to ‘real person’ bag, forgetting the portable charger at home, and having a phone that constantly dies at 30% battery life, I most definitely do.

BONUS: Shop with your HookUp card and receive a $10 gift card with the purchase of $150 or more.

Hoboken Women's Wellness

For the new mom, experienced mom, pet mom, tired mom (that’s everyone, I know), and anyone in between, HOBOKEN WOMEN’S WELLNESS is a haven for mothers and a perfect place to send the mama in your life who’s in need of some pampering. What makes this spot stand out from others is the wide range of therapeutic services offered, but with such a supportive and personal touch. Hoboken Women’s Wellness comes highly recommended for pre and postnatal massage, as well as therapeutic massage and Reiki. They also offer more unique services like Rolfing Structural Integration (bodywork that builds improvements in posture, efficiency, and ease of movement), Private Birth Preparation, and other services for mommies-to-be.

BONUS: Again, LH HookUP cardholders receive a special facial treatment with any full-priced session. Please see our website for all of the details.

Washington General Store

When you need a gift for your mother-in-law and have no idea where to begin, I suggest heading to WASHINGTON GENERAL STORE! For those of you who haven’t shopped here yet, it is chock-FULL of amazing gifts. It is meticulously curated and houses tons of gorgeous picture frames, jewelry with birthstones, and these adorable sugar & creamer sets. Last year I gave a printed 8x10 picture of my daughter in a nice frame to both grandmothers and it was a hit. Basic isn’t boring when cute kids are involved ;) And if you do plan on taking a vacation soon, they just got a collection of beach bags in

Ariele's Apothecary

I love getting my parents gift cards for services I know they would never get on their own. It forces them to try something different and gives them a new experience, which is always a wonderful gift. ARIELE’S APOTHECARY is a peaceful, calming little spot right off of Washington Street that specializes in acupuncture. What many people don’t realize is that acupuncture can be quite relaxing (especially here) and can treat a multitude of conditions including pain, digestive issues, women’s fertility, anxiety, & depression. The store also sells their own custom tea blends (one is pictured above) and mom-friendly products like their tension tamer roll-on oil. Trust me, you’ll be leaving here zen as a mother!

BONUS: Get10% off all Ariele’s Apothecary line of artisanal small batch blends & botanical remedies with your HookUp card

For the mom who can’t get to the spa, bring the new-age spa to her! Trust me, these decadent products from DOLLYMOO aren’t anything like mom’s fancy wrapped soaps of the past. Dollymoo is an oasis... a cozy little hideaway and a truly magical little store located in Montclair, NJ. While it’s not super-local, everything IS made right here in northern NJ and Hoboken Family Pharmacy stocks some of their products. All of their inventory can be purchased online, and if you find yourself out in the ‘burbs over the next couple of weeks, it is well worth the visit to the Dollymoo store. Two sisters started this handmade skincare company and continue to make everything in small batches with LOTS of love. While I’m not a bath person, their too-pretty-to-use bath bombs have a cult following. Those beauties on the right are “Faerie Realm Bath Bombs”. Personally, I love their unique (and all natural) lip balms and roll-on perfumes. I’ve given these as gifts before, sometimes by themselves or along with their lavender oil which smells divine. I’m telling you.. zen as a mother. We’ll get there.

No 18 Boutique

Whether you’re a working mom or a stay-at-home-mom, it’s easy to neglect your wardrobe and fall into a rut. If you’re looking to spoil someone or just select some new pieces for spring and summer, NO. 18 BOUTIQUE is the perfect place to shop. They have a brand new store (their second location) in Maxwell Place which carries lust-worthy curated designer pieces. Shoes, bags, dresses – the one above is a gorgeous Rachel Zoe, and accessories will be housed in the new location while the original storefront on Washington St. will morph into a Wellness Boutique, specializing in high-end activewear, athleisure (yes, please!), and organic beauty/wellness products.

BONUS: Shop with your HookUp card and save 15% on Tuesdays! (Excludes Fine Jewelry and Murray and Finn)

Happy Box Store

Last but not least, I am obsessed with the latest creation from HAPPY BOX STORE. The new “Mother’s Day Box” comes with a spa face mask, gold glitter detail oversized makeup pouch, OHM lavender scented hand-poured soy candle, calming herbal tea (which is so necessary), rock candy (which is even more necessary), a handwritten card (you include the note to recipient), and pretty much the best mug ever. Yeah, I’d say this one’s a home run guys. All of this ships right to their door in a lovely I-have-my-ish-together package. The two local ladies behind this business sell plenty of other varieties including the “Puppy Mom Box” & “Baby Bump Box” for mommies to be!

Still stumped?

Does mom seem to have everything?

Here are my last go-to gift ideas...

Give a meaningful read from you, or your child, from a local bookstore (Little City Books in Hoboken, Word in Jersey City) along with a handcrafted card. We all know how much mom appreciates that handwritten message squished in between the printed lines! Hudson Paperie has a great selection AND is on the HookUp card.

Make a donation in her name to a charity of her choosing. If you’re unsure, consider one like Moms Helping Moms or The Global Fund for Women

Want to help other moms in need but still want something for her to unwrap? Check out 31 Bits, a jewelry brand handmade by artisans in Uganda, allowing them to rise above poverty and create a better life for themselves.

Invite mom into the Mile Square to play tourist for the day! Stop by the Hoboken Historical Museum, take a food tour, or head over to Jersey City to explore Historic Downtown. Van Vorst Park is a great place to take a walk, check out the farmers market (Saturdays only), and catch up with a special mom in your life!

Sticking to the tried and true? Grab some rosé and roses at one of our participating wine and flower shops. Use your LH HookUp card for a discount, and while you’re at it, buy another bottle because being a mother is a gift, but it ain’t easy!

Happy Mother's Day!
