Nourish Your Body & Mind: A Chat with Jeannine Morris-Lombardi

We had the opportunity to meet Jeannine Morris-Lombardi by chance while wandering Hoboken and it appeared to be our lucky day! Jeannine is super sweet, bubbly, warm, knowledgeable, excited to work with local moms...and, did we mention gorgeous?!

She started her career as a beauty editor at Cosmopolitan and over time has become a "Jill of All Trades" as a multimedia reporter, holistic health coach, yoga teacher, and influencer.

We knew we had to collaborate with Jeannine and have a few more fun things in the pipeline from her coming soon, but decided to start with her extensive background on nutrition...specifically for moms!

Nursing moms are starving! Burning all of those calories with breastfeeding and pumping makes you want to snack all day. What do you recommend moms do to keep up their energy, but also work on getting rid of that baby weight?

As a nursing mom, you may need to eat more calories to (up to 500) per day to keep your energy levels up. Depending on your health and what the nutrients the baby needs, discuss how to eat to feed your child with your doctor. For those additional calories, make sure to focus on healthy snacking that includes protein.

Speaking of baby weight, what is the best overall eating practice to adopt when trying to lose the baby weight? Especially when it's so hard to find time for the gym!

I recommend eating three well balanced meals per day with two healthy snacks in between. Never skip meals, as you need the fuel and nutrition to remain energized, but watch your portion sizes. Load your plates up with a serving of protein and as many greens and vegetables as you’d like, but pass on carbs if you’re looking to drop a few pounds. If you’re anything like me and don’t want to pass up the carbs, make sure you're eating complex carbs like sweet potatoes and whole grains.

What are your favorite healthy snacks that you recommend for on-the-go moms?

  • pre-portioned packages of almonds

  • apple + peanut butter (individually packaged Justin's Peanut Butter)

  • hummus + veggies

  • Lara bars

  • single portion Laughing Cow cheese wedges

  • hard boiled eggs

  • organic beef or turkey jerky

  • sunflower seeds mixed with raisins

So many moms try to juggle their kids' diets, careers, household chores, and a million other things. We pick off our kids' plates or exist on coffee! What are the nutrients we most often tend to miss and how can we help ourselves to get those back into our bodies?

One of the worst things a mom can do when trying to lose weight or stay in shape is pick off of her child’s plate. Oftentimes, whatever you’re eating ends up being thoughtless, excess calories and not a nutritious meal. Instead, try to eat mindfully and make sure your meals are well balanced. I find that meal prep helps to keep my clients on track and sets them up for a week of success.

If you are interested in more with Jeannine, be sure to contact her and ask about her Nourish program. Nourish is essentially a "reset button" for your body and is a 14 day detox plan (without the starvation!) focused on whole foods.

AND....Did you know you can score a discount on her highly sought-after private yoga classes by being a Little Hoboken Hook-Up card holder? Reach out to Jeannine to schedule.
